The honest verdict
A power supply's job is to deliver enough clean, stable power — not to make your GPU faster. Once it comfortably covers what your parts draw, adding more watts changes nothing your frame counter will see. There IS a real failure mode at the other end: a power supply that is too small, failing, or low-quality can cause crashes, shutdowns, or the GPU pulling back under load — but the fix there is an ADEQUATE, good-quality unit, not just a bigger number. Size it to your hardware with a little headroom and move on; wattage past that is money the frame counter will not thank you for.
