What it means
Forcing extra code into a program that's already running, by slipping a library (a DLL file) into its process. Overlays use a gentle form of it; cheats and some "optimizers" use an aggressive form.
More detail
A DLL is a Dynamic-Link Library — a bundle of code programs share. The problem is that injecting into a game looks exactly like what a cheat does, so anti-cheats treat it as hostile and can ban the account. Any tool that injects into game memory is playing with your account's safety, whatever it promises.
