The pattern
A side-by-side shows low FPS "before" and high FPS "after." Look closer and the two shots are different scenes, different settings, or different spots in the game — the gap is from changing the test, not the tweak.
The tell
The two images don't match: a different area, a quality preset, or a menu versus gameplay does the heavy lifting, not the change being sold.
