What it does
Cranking up your mouse's DPI (sensitivity) expecting a higher or smoother frame rate.
The honest verdict
DPI sets how far the aim moves per inch of mouse travel — it is a sensitivity setting, and it has nothing to do with how many frames your GPU draws. A 400-DPI mouse and a 26,000-DPI mouse give you the exact same FPS. What DPI affects is your AIM: too high and it is twitchy, too low and you run out of mousepad. Pick a DPI (most pros sit in the 400–1600 range) plus an in-game sensitivity that lets you do a comfortable 180 with about a forearm's sweep, and leave it. The thing on a mouse that CAN actually touch performance — a very high polling rate — is a different setting, and one that tends to cost a sliver of FPS rather than add it.
